(July 6) The Netherlands-based Royal Ahold NV announced in a news release that it has completed the sale of U.S. Foodservice Inc., Columbia, Md., to a consortium of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Fund VII LP and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co LP.

Ahold announced in early May that it had agreed on a purchase price of $7.1 billion. The company's shareholders approved the sale at a general meeting.

"This is a milestone for Ahold," said John Rishton, acting president and chief executive officer, in the release. "The sale of U.S. Foodservice is a significant step in implementing the company's strategy announced last November."
