(Dec. 13) A new lawsuit has been filed against U.S. Foodservice Inc., the distribution division of Netherlands-based Royal Ahold NV.

In the lawsuit, a family-owned Italian restaurant in Rockford, Ill., and a Connecticut hospital claim that U.S. Foodservice engaged in "racketeering” using a "fraudulent" supply system to overcharge customers by "hundreds of millions of dollars" between 2000 and 2003, the Financial Times reported.

The suit comes at time when Ahold is selling Columbia, Md.-based U.S. Foodservice in an effort to cut non-core operations and focus strictly on retailing.
