(Oct. 4) Los Angeles-based produce distributor A.M.S. Exotic LLC formed a wholly-owned subsidiary, A.M.S. Export, on Sept. 29.

Scott Lehmann, director of sales for A.M.S. Exotic, began exporting produce 15 years ago. He said the growth in export sales forced the company to form a separate entity.

A.M.S. Exotic sent more than 400 shipping containers to Europe, Brazil and Mexico during the past 12 months, Lehmann said. He said he was unable to provide specific sales figures.

Domestic stone fruit has accounted for the majority of exports.

Lehmann said Thierry Delapre, a co-owner of A.M.S. Exotic, will now concentrate solely on building A.M.S. Export. The new entity required the addition of salesman Rodrigo Penteado, who comes to the U.S. from Brazil, where he was involved in the produce industry.

Lehmann said A.M.S. Export has established an affiliate network in Europe and South America.
