(July 31) BALTIMORE — Retail produce industry veteran Karen Stout is making another move.

Stout has been promoted to head the Montvale, N.J.-based The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.’s Mid-Atlantic Group in Baltimore. The Mid-Atlantic Group handles A&P’s Super Fresh Food Markets chain, which has 48 stores in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

Stout joined A&P in November 2000 as president of the company’s Southern region office in New Orleans.

Stout had worked 21 years for Harris-Teeter Supermarkets Inc., Charlotte, N.C., starting as director of produce and floral merchandising. She then moved to director of perishables and regional director. Stout resigned her vice president of operations position in late 1999.

A July 10 announcement of Stout’s promotion noted her accomplishment in directing what A&P called its “supercenter competitive defense strategy.”
