A Facebook fan page for Chilean Avocados is new from the Chilean Avocado Importers Association.

Monounsaturated fats, to be specific, are a desired fat found in avocados, but not in most fruits, the association’s dietician consultants told attendees of the American Dietetic Association’s Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in Denver Oct. 17-20.

The conference attracted more than 9,000 registered dieticians from across the country.

The association hosted a booth and staffed it with registered dieticians Cynthia Sass, co-author of “The Flat Belly Diet,” and David Grotto, author of “101 Foods That Could Save Your Life,” according to a news release.

Grotto is also working on a new book, “101 Optimal Life Foods,” which should include several hass avocado recipes from the association, according to the release. The two chefs should be part of the association’s outreach at least through the Chilean avocado season, which is expected to wrap-up in March.

In addition to its monounsaturated fats message, the association also promoted its new Chilean Avocado Lover’s Club Facebook page, offered a $250 voucher for groceries at a winner’s local supermarket, and handed our media kits and CDs with recipes, photographs and information about Chile and about its avocados.
