(May 22) The California Avocado Commission, Irvine, has a new marketing director.

Stacy Jaffa, who was previously marketing manager at Los Angeles-based Paramount Farms, plans to start May 24. She succeeds Kellie DuBois, who left in February.

The avocado category’s growth in the past five years provides an exciting challenge for Jaffa, Jan DeLyser, commission vice president, said in a news release. The category grew from 500 million pounds in 2001 to an estimated 1 billion pounds in 2006.

Jaffa has 10 years of experience in developing brand marketing programs for consumer and trade, according to the release.

She completed a masters degree in communications management in 1996 at the University of Southern California-Los Angeles.
