(Dec. 16) B.C. Hot House Foods Inc. has promoted its chief financial officer to president.

Brian Beggs assumed the top post for the Surrey, British Columbia-based company Dec. 15.

He succeeds David Smith, who stepped down as president and chief executive officer July 29.

Beggs, who worked for Dole Thailand for 10 years and was an executive in the computer industry before joining B.C. Hot House in September 2003, also held the title of vice president of finance during the past two years.

Beggs also has served as chief financial officer for a California seafood company and the Seattle Mariners baseball team.

Al Vangelos, acting president and chief executive officer, said in a news release that Beggs has served the company well and should be an ideal leader during a period of change for the hot house industry.

Beggs could not be reached for comment Dec. 15.
