(April 5) Jay Otto, vice president of professional services for Zumasys Inc., Lake Forrest, Calif., died Thursday, March 29, after an 18-month battle with melanoma.

Otto, who was 37, is survived by his wife, Barbie, and his 10-month-old son, Jay Jr.

A college fund has been set up for Jay Jr. The fund was set up by American Agencies Inc. in Los Angeles, which plans to match up to $10,000 in donations. Zumasys has donated $10,000 to the account.

Paul Giobbi, Zumasys president, said Otto — the first person hired when company opened in September 2000 — was an integral part of the company. Giobbi said Otto never lost his cool when he was dealing with a customer and always kept a positive attitude.

Even though Otto was on medical leave, he came back to the office twice when the company was backlogged with work. Giobbi said it was inspiring to watch him come to work under his circumstances.

Zumasys Inc. is known for technologies such as The On Demand Office, a hosted solution that provides a virtual Windows desktop.
