(April 24) MINNEAPOLIS — C.H. Robinson Worldwide Inc. is reporting that, for the first quarter that ended March 31, its gross profits increased 0.3%, to $113.6 million, from $113.3 million in 2001.

The Minneapolis-based company noted that it continued to see a trend of less volume with its traditional business with produce wholesalers but that increases in volumes with large retailers had offset that slippage.

For the first quarter, sourcing gross profits decreased 1.8%, from $11.5 million in 2001 to $11.3 million in 2002.

Transportation gross profits decreased 0.2%, from $96.7 million in 2001 to $96.6 million in 2002. The decline in truck gross profits of 1.4% was due to a decline in truckload volumes, the company said.

However, the company saw a 12.9% increase in gross profits in its information services.
