(Aug. 12) Finding direction when merchandising fresh asparagus and mangoes might be a tough job for some retailers, but people at Bounty Fresh LLC, Miami, offer a solution: Let the stars be your guide.

For the third year in a row, Bounty Fresh is teaming up with Chef Allen Susser of the Aventura, Fla.-based five-star restaurant Chef Allen’s. The two will promote fresh asparagus and mangoes at about 10 retail locations.

About two eastern U.S. states are visited each year. The 2003 sites have not been picked, said John-Campbell Barmmer, director of marketing at Bounty Fresh. Past areas included New Orleans and Boston.

The events, called “The Great Asparagus Tour” and “The Great Mango Tour,” increase sales of the commodities by about 300% at the retail locations, Barmmer said.

Residual sales increases have been 50% to 75%, he said.
