(Sept. 10, 3:11 p.m.) Robert Strube and his wife, Helen, have established the Bob and Helen Strube Freedom from Hunger Fund to support the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

One of the original founders of the food depository in 1978, Robert Strube is the former president of Strube Celery & Vegetable Co., Chicago.

The fund, which stands at $470,000, including donations made in honor of the Strubes, uses revenue from the principal to support the food depository’s efforts to provide food to food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters throughout Cook County, according to a news release.

Last year, the food depository distributed more than 46 million pounds of food to more than 600 food pantries and shelters, helping feed 500,000 people, according to the release.
