(June 22) Having registered success with the Chiquita-to-Go line of single bananas and its Fresh & Ready banana three-packs, Cincinnati-based Chiquita Brands International Inc., is spreading its quick-and-easy wings with help from a subsidiary, Fresh Express Inc., Salinas, Calif.

Chiquita Brands International is test-marketing Gourmet Cafe, a line of single-serve salads sold in clamshells with the Fresh Express label, said Ed Lloyd, manager of Chiquita Brands investor relations and corporate communications.

“We’re pleased with how it’s going so far,” Lloyd said of the test-marketing of the salads in Denver and Seattle.

He said the test-marketing, which began in late March, is expected continue indefinitely.

The salads contain more than vegetables. Lloyd said the line includes Waldorf chicken salad and Caribbean chicken salad.

Chiquita Brands is working on pricing points and plans a national rollout, Lloyd said.
