(June 4) Chiquita Brands International Inc., Cincinnati, wants to expand from its traditional focus by adding a number of new items, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

Products include Chiquita to Go – technology that allows retailers to sell individual bananas, now in more than 8,000 stores in North America; Café Gourmet – single-serve salads, testing in the Western U.S.; Fresh & Ready – packaging that keeps bananas fresh for more than a week, testing in Florida; Minis – bunches of smaller bananas sold in a bag, now in stores; Chiquita Fruit Bars – now testing in Germany; and Just Fruit in a Bottle – chilled juice, launched in Belgium last year.

"Not everything we test will work out, but we're clearly trying to make all of these global products," Fernando Aguirre, chairman and chief executive officer, said at the company's annual shareholders meeting last week.
