(Aug. 2) CINCINNATI — Chiquita Brands International Inc. said July 28 that it is relocating its West Coast port operations from Long Beach, Calif., to the Port of Hueneme, northwest of Los Angeles in Ventura County.

The move is targeted for Nov. 1, after which all Chiquita shipments will move through the Hueneme facility, said Mike Mitchell, a Chiquita spokesman.

William Buenger, executive director of the latter port, said that the facility has agreed to make infrastructure upgrades to accommodate pallet and container handling that Chiquita will require.

Chiquita and its shipping subsidiary, Great White Fleet Ltd., also announced a long-term operating agreement with LauritzenCool, a logistics firm that specializes in international perishable shipments and already handles some Chiquita products.
