On a visit to a Miami, Fla., school, former President Bill Clinton announced new agreements to increase availability of healthy meals for more than 30 million students nationwide.

The Alliance for a Healthier Generation – a nonprofit founded by the American Heart Association and William J. Clinton Foundation – secured the agreements, announced Jan. 21 by Clinton at Edison Middle School.

Thirteen companies, including Dole Food, joined the former president to support the Alliance’s Healthy Schools program, an anti-obesity effort.

Dole Food assists schools with handling education guides for fresh fruits and vegetables, a Dole spokesman said. Of the 13 companies, Dole was the only grower-shipper.

A broader list of 82 companies and nonprofits supporting the Alliance’s other efforts includes Stemilt Growers as well as Dole Food.
