(Feb. 14) Colorful Harvest has moved from its Monterey, Calif., office to Salinas, relocating its 12-member sales staff.

The national grower-shipper of colored produce items under the Green Giant Fresh and Colorful Harvest labels cited rapid growth and the addition of new people for the move.

In 2006, Colorful Harvest experienced a growth rate of more than 30%. The new headquarters will be twice the size of the previous office.

“Now that we have more room, our goal is to add a few more experienced sales professionals to help us with some of the new acreage that we have,” said Doug Ranno, chief operating officer.

Ranno said the company’s rapid growth can be attributed to its strategy of offering colored fresh fruits and vegetables coupled with national strawberry and blueberry programs.

“We appeal to growers, several of whom are bringing their acreage to us, and we’re selling nationally a coveted group of customers,” he said. “The major drive behind the accelerated growth has been our commitment to a steady increase in national berry acreage.”

He said the company grows berries in California in Oxnard, Santa Maria, Salinas and Watsonville and in Florida.

“Twelve months out of the year, we’re shipping berries,” he said. “We strategically grow in each of those regions uniformly. I’m not going to put a whole bunch of acreage in one location without growing another location. That has been a very good strategy for us because we’ve been able to take customers on a cover them year round.”

The new address is 1418 S. South Means St. and the new main phone number is (831) 646-2100.
