The Canadian agency charged with providing food safety audits and certification for the nation’s fruit and vegetable grower-shippers has added another service provider.

Guelph Food Technology Center has joined the Ottawa-based Canadian Horticultural Council’s CanadaGAP program, according to a council news release.

Guelph and other third-party certifiers are licensed by the council to provide audit and certification services for producers and packers of fresh fruit and vegetables  that are enrolled in the program.

Guelph joins QMI-SAI Global on the list of approved certifiers.

Companies must undergo on-farm audits to become CanadaGAP-certified. Loblaw Companies, McCain Foods Canada and other leading Canadian buyers require their suppliers to be CanadaGAP-certified.
