(Feb. 25) Dole plans to begin branding Chinese apples for export to European markets, a company spokesman said.

Dole Europe imports apples year round from North America, South Africa, Chile, China and New Zealand, according to the company’s Web site. However, this is the first time Dole had offered Chinese product in the Dole label, said Bil Goldfield, communications manager of Dole Foods.

The apples will be fujis. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, fujis account for 60% of China’s 23 million-ton crop.
