(Sept. 15) Hot off the presses is an 11- by 17-inch chart of the potato varieties grown in Washington.

The double-sided poster, created by the Washington State Potato Commission, Moses Lake, is printed on heavy stock and provides the variety name, its characteristics, best preparation methods and a color photograph.

Dee Munson, president of The Food Professionals Inc., Seattle, and a representative of the commission, said the poster was designed for produce and foodservice professionals. She said the poster could be hung in the receiving area, where its information pertaining to the storage and handling of potatoes might be helpful.

The poster also could be displayed in kitchens or classrooms for chef instructors, said Karen Bonaudi, assistant executive director of the commission.

Eighteen varieties appear on the poster: five russets, two whites, three yellows, five reds, blue/purple and two fingerlings.

Copies of the poster are available for free from the Washington State Potato Commission, 108 Interlake Road, Moses Lake, WA 98837, (509) 765-8845 or e-mail kbonaudi@potatoes.com.
