An importer of fresh fruits and vegetables from Central and South America has expanded one of its longstanding import deals and begun another.

Coconut Grove, Fla.-based Continental Fresh LLC is bringing in up to four vessels of Honduran cucumbers per week this season for distribution on the East Coast, according to a company news release.

The deal began in late December and should last until mid-March. Continental Fresh has been slowly growing the program since it experimented with test plots in the late 1980s.

In addition to the growth in its Honduran cuke deal, Continental Fresh imported sweet onions from Peru for the first time this season. The company also sources mangoes and avocados year-round.
