After a strong debut, FirstFruits Marketing will once again ship Opal apples this season.

FirstFruits shipping Opal apples

Yakima, Wash.-based FirstFruits, the Opal’s exclusive U.S. distributor, first shipped the yellow-skinned variety in 2009-2010, according to a company news release.

The Opal is grown in Washington exclusively by Prescott, Wash.-based Broetje Orchards, FirstFruits’ grower partner. The deal is expected to run from January through May.

A cross between a golden delicious and a Topaz, the Opal is known for its bright color, crunchy texture and tangy flavor. It was first produced in Europe in 2000.
