Fresh produce consortium FreshXperts added Francisco Obregon, who has more than 35 years of experience in agribusiness, to its roster of consultants, strengthening the group’s presence in Latin America.

Obregon will serve the group as a supply chain specialist that manages marketing, logistics, post-harvest, production and planning in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

 â€œPrimarily it connects us to Latin America and strengthens relations and services that can flow back and forth pertaining to Mexican growers and U.S. sellers who want to sell south of the border,” said Anthony Totta, business development and marketing expert with the consortium. “His resume speaks for itself. He has a very extensive background.”

Obregon recently managed a Latin American business development initiative for Minneapolis-based C.H. Robinson, and has consulted for clients such as B.C. Hot House, Scientific Certification Systems, Mission Produce, Macro Plastics, Farm Fresh Direct and Dade Services.

Prior to that, he served as general manager for Bionova Produce in Nogales, Ariz., and served as secretary of economic development for the Mexican state of Sonora.

 Totta equated Obregon’s work in Latin America with that of Jelger de Vriend, another member of FreshXperts, based in the Netherlands, and the work he does in Europe.

“(Obregon is very good at) counseling on procurement philosophies as well as monetizing at a retail level,” Totta said. “He has tremendous experience, and we see him as having an ability to give services to just about anyone in our industry.”

The addition of Obregon brings to 10 the number of consultants in the FreshXperts network.
