(Jan. 9) India’s Maharashtra State Agriculture Marketing Board hopes to conduct mango festivals in the U.S. and Japan in March to help growers explore new markets abroad, Harshavardhan Patil, state minister for marketing, told The Times of India.

As many as 1,200 tons of mangoes could be shipped to the two countries during 2008, and the Indian government may subsidize the transportation cost, Patil said, in the article.

The board has trained about 110 farmers to export their produce to the U.S. and Japan, The Times reported.
