Scott George, who has a 35-year background in retail and wholesale produce industry, has been promoted to vice president of sales and marketing for citrus shipper DLF International Inc., Vero Beach, Fla.

George, who previously worked as a merchandiser and director for Fleming Cos. Inc., Lewisville, Texas, and as a produce director for the Findlay, Ohio-based Great Scott supermarket chain, now called Fresh Encounter Inc., was promoted to the DLF position Aug. 1.

Beginning work for DLF in 2004, George joins three others in the citrus marketer and packer’s sales office.
George will handle the company’s marketing of up to 2 million cartons of Florida citrus, including grapefruit, juice oranges, tangerines, tangelos and minneola tangelos.

The company cited George for his marketing and finance skills and sales expertise in a news release.

George said DLF is looking into handling Mexican avocados and Florida and imported cantaloupe.
