(May 16) An "extraordinary emergency" has been declared in Michigan and New York by Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns, making funds available on a cost-share basis to help eradicate plum pox virus in both states.

"If left unchecked, PPV could have devastating effects on our nation’s fruit growers," Johanns said, in a U.S. Department of Agriculture news release.

"USDA is fully committed to stopping the spread of this disease, and we will work with Michigan and New York to support survey, regulation and eradication," Johanns added.
