The Vidalia Onion Committee has received federal funding for an onion museum and Web site upgrades.
The Vidalia, Ga.-based committee received a $30,000 grant through the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program, a provision of the 2008 farm bill, according to a committee news release.
Two-thirds of the funding will be allocated for construction of the Vidalia Onion Museum. The award leaves the museum $40,000 short of its $215,000 cost. The museum is scheduled to open in 2010.
The other $10,000 will fund improvements to the committee’s Web site.
