Ten Washington state elementary schools won greenhouses and $1,000 grants through the Kids Are Growing competition coordinated by the Washington State Potato Commission.

GreenhouseMegastore.com donated the greenhouses for the program, which the commission started in 2004 to promote nutrition and agriculture in schools, according to a news release.

Representatives from the program’s partners judged entries on originality, creativity and the benefits the greenhouse could provide for the school.

The winning schools are:

  • All Saints Catholic School, Spokane;
  • Christ the King School, Richland;
  • Cougar Creek Elementary, Arlington;
  • Deer Park Elementary, Deer Park;
  • Discovery School, Spokane;
  • Early Learning Center, Lake Stevens;
  • Grant Elementary, Spokane;
  • Mill Pond Elementary, Yelm;
  • Scenic Hill Elementary, Kent; and
  • University Elementary, Spokane Valley.
