FRESNO, Calif. — Ensher, Alexander & Barsoom Inc., Sacramento, Calif., a pioneer in the California pomegranate industry, has tabbed Crown Jewels Marketing & Distribution LLC, Fresno, to market its fruit.

The switch to Crown Jewels was prompted by last year’s closing of Ito Packing Inc, Reedley, which marketed the E&A labeled pomegranates for 38 years, said Steve Barsoom, a partner in Ensher, Alexander & Barsoom. The company has 960 acres of pomegranates near Mendota in western San Joaquin Valley.

“All of us at Crown Jewels are honored to be able to represent such a legendary company,” said Atomic Torosian, a managing partner at Crown Jewels.

Crown Jewels anticipates volumes of about 350,000 boxes this season, he said. That volume should increase in the coming years, because some of the acreage is in new plantings that are not yet in commercial production, Torosian said.

Harvesting of early foothill and early wonderful varieties is expected to begin in late August. Picking of the wonderful variety follows, continuing at least through October, Torosian said.

“We should have promotable volumes of fruit at least until Christmas Day,” he said.

The pomegranates will be packed under both the E&A and Crown Jewels labels, Torosian said.
