(Jan. 9) The departure of more key staff members signals the potential for more changes at Delta Packing Co. of Lodi Inc., Lodi, Calif., and its sister operation, Delta Packing Co. of San Joaquin LLC, San Joaquin.

“We’re in the process of evaluating what crops we’ll be packing,” said Mark Delameter, chief operating officer of West Valley Farm Enterprises LLC, San Joaquin.

Delameter said West Valley Farm Enterprises is a management firm that provides strategic planning, accounting and other services. He said West Valley is owned by Ernie Costamagna, a partner in the two Delta Packing facilities.

Andy Vidak, who had been general manager of Delta Packing for more than three years, left the company Dec. 6. Also leaving was salesman Mike Grindstaff, who had joined the company in July, the same month that Chris Vangelos, director of sales and marketing, left.

Delameter said among the changes being considered is merging Delta Packing of San Joaquin with Delta Packing of Lodi and moving both operations to one site.

“We are committed to being a significant player in the packing industry,” Delameter said. He said plans for 2007 were not finalized but that Delta Packing of San Joaquin would cool and pack spring lettuce and would pack onions.

Delameter said Jerry Wilkins is the only remaining member of the company’s sales staff. He joined the firm in June as business development manager and export salesman.
