The position more fully integrates blueberries into Driscoll’s program and emphasizes the importance of blueberries in its long-term plans, the company said in a news release.

“John is a results-oriented business and marketing professional with over 20 years of experience in the consumer packaged goods industry,” Michael Hollister, Driscoll’s senior vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release.

Johnston will be responsible for managing blueberries during every stage of production and distribution, including product quality, packaging, pricing and distribution, the release said.

Johnston comes to Driscoll’s from the Salinas, Calif., operation of Chiquita Brands International Inc., Cincinnati. Before that, he worked for Chiquita subsidiary Fresh Express Inc., Salinas, and H.J. Heinz Co., Pittsburgh, Pa.

“I’m really excited to be part of the Driscoll’s family and am looking forward to working together to build Driscoll’s blueberry business as well as growing the overall blueberry category,” Johnson said in the release.
