(Dec. 20) New package designs for Salinas, Calif.-based Epic Roots’ line of mache salads in bags and clamshells made their way to customers starting Dec. 12.

The company’s entire bagged line, including mache rosettes, Mache Mix Salade Aux Herbes and Mache Mix Salade Européen, features the new look.

The change was brought about by consumer research that indicated what consumers like the most about mache: taste, appearance and nutritional qualities, said Isaac Cronin, director of public relations.

Details telling customers about these qualities highlight the front of the bag, he said.

“We thought it needed to have a friendly, accessible feel,” Cronin said. “This is a more fun, lively and almost whimsical approach, which is what mache is really.”

The bags also are designed to make the mache look as though it’s actually in a salad bowl, a technique that Cronin said puts the product “halfway to being out the door.”

The clamshells feature a similar design to the bags but not the likeness of a salad bowl.
