(Sept. 10, 8:25 a.m.) The Maitland-based Florida Tomato Committee is sponsoring an art contest to promote its product up and down the East Coast.

Fifteen winners will be chosen, one each from 15 East Coast cities ranging from Miami in the south to Portland, Maine, in the north, according to a committee news release.

Each winner receives $1,000 and will be eligible for a grand prize of $2,000.

Acceptable mediums include watercolor, acrylic and oil paints, photography and mixed media. Works must be about 20 by 30 inches and include field-grown round tomatoes and the words “Florida tomatoes.”

Contestants must email their entries to www.floridatomatoart.com by Oct. 15.

The winning works will be included in a promotional tour of East Coast farmers’ markets, grocery retailers and shopping centers this fall.
