(May 24) SALISBURY, N.C. — Retail growth has prompted an operations consolidation and management restructuring for Food Lion Stores Inc., Salisbury.

“Our number of stores and operating areas have grown so much that it made sense for us to divide into two sections,” said Jeff Lowrance, Food Lion’s corporate communications manager.

Food Lion, which said it expects to add 35 stores this year to its 1,207 locations throughout the southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states, will have two executive vice presidents instead of one overseeing the chain’s five geographic divisions.

Robert Brunory, Food Lion’s senior vice president of fresh merchandising, will take on duties managing the chain’s distribution and quality assurance divisions.

Lowrance said the changes will not have major effects fresh produce procurement. The chain’s buying of-fices, staffing levels and warehouse operations will remain unchanged, he said.
