The Ontario Produce Marketing Association has hired a TV cooking show celebrity to encourage consumers to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Kary Osmond, host of “Best Recipes Ever,” will star in the OPMA’s coming Produce Made Simple website.

The site will feature videos, a Q&A with consumers and a recipe of the week prepared with a few simple ingredients.

Ashlee Mclean, the OPMA’s director of marketing and communications, said the 40-week campaign should begin by late March.

Osmond plans to sample recipes in the OPMA booth at the annual Canadian Produce Marketing Association convention in Toronto from April 17-19.

Before school starts in the fall, Mclean said OPMA will invite kids to send in a photo of themselves cooking with their mom or dad for a chance to win a prize.

Another OPMA project — Learn, Live, Love, Local — now has 1,170 Facebook followers for its weekly recipes, she said.

In March, the billboard above the Ontario food terminal will feature a “4-L” ad supporting Ontario’s greenhouse industry.
