The newly released movie Julie and Julia, which features Meryl Streep acting as Julia Child, leaves executives at Gourmet Mushrooms Inc., reminiscing about the real Julia Child’s visit to their farm in 1992.

Child visited the Sebastopol, Calif.-based operation in April of that year while on a tour of Sonoma County wineries and farms, according to a news release.

At the time, Child’s experience with mushrooms was mostly with wild chanterelle and cepe mushrooms, since she studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, according to the release. David Law, chief executive officer, said he remembers Child being “entranced by the wide variety of mushrooms being grown,” according to the release.

In the early 1990s, Gourmet Mushrooms, which was founded in 1977, was supplying Bay Area chefs, mostly. Now, the company commercially produces seven varieties of organic specialty mushrooms that are sold to foodservice and retail customers nationally, according to the release.
