(Sept. 25) Foodservice and facilities management business Aramark Corp., Philadelphia, recently announced plans to open its first brand of free-standing retail restaurants, starting in October at the Texas Medical Center, Houston.

Operated by the Aramark Healthcare unit, additional quick-casual restaurants under the Soluna Café & Bakery name are due to crop up in Columbus, Ohio, and San Diego in early 2007.

Aramark said the concept is aimed at medical professionals and others on large healthcare campuses, and will offer tossed-to-order salads, sandwiches and premium soups in a tranquil atmosphere.

Soluna’s signature item will be its Quiche-Adilla, which includes versions such as a produce-heavy one containing red, yellow and green peppers with eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash and red onion.
