(March 5, 5:05 p.m.) The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas didn’t have to go far to find its new president.

The Nogales, Ariz.-based association has named former board member Jesse Driskill as its successor to long time president Lee Frankel.

Driskill has worked in the produce industry in Arizona for nearly two decades. He started as an assistant controller in the Nogales branch of King City, Calif.-based Meyer LLC in 1990 and served as its general manager from 1996 until 2003.

Driskill, who previously served as vice chairman of FPAA, started his own company, Driskill Agricultural Services Inc., Rio Rico, Ariz., in 2004.

“He’s been a member of the industry for a long time,” said Allison Moore, communications manager for the FPAA. “He knows people here, and he has good relationships with growers in Mexico. He’s going to have a small learning curve because he knows the issues facing the industry. We’re excited that he’s going to be able to hit the ground running.”

Driskill was traveling March 5 and could not be reached for comment. He succeeds Frankel, who resigned in November after more than a decade as the association’s leader to become president and chief executive officer of Salt Lake City-based United Potato Growers of America.

Moore said Driskill will begin work at the association April 14.
