(Dec. 22) MONTEREY, Calif. — A second Canadian produce supplier has joined the Pro*Act foodservice distribution network, and more Canadian companies likely will follow.

Toronto-based Fresh Start Foods Inc. has become the second Canadian produce firm to join the system. It is Pro*Act’s 39th member.

Pro*Act’s next targeted Canadian market is Vancouver, Ligier said. The network now has 57 distribution centers throughout the U.S. and Canada.

“This program allows Pro*Act to extend our sourcing, marketing, and networking services to distributors in almost any marketplace,” Ligier said in a news release. “With the addition of Fresh Start, we have expanded our distribution base in Canada to include Toronto.”

Hector Larivee Inc. gives Pro*Act a presence in Montreal.

“It became very apparent to us that Pro*Act was an organization with resources far beyond those that we hold as an independent company,” Fresh Start president Scott Patterson said in a news release.

Fresh Start Foods Inc. has launched a vegetable processing division in its 50,000-square-foot facility in Milton, Ontario, a Toronto suburb. The company has distribution centers in Ottawa, Waterloo and London, Ontario.

“Their reputation in the industry, combined with their distribution coverage in Ontario, makes this a perfect fit for both organizations,” Pro*Act chairman Greg Yancey said in the news release.
