Packing and processing plants at To-Jo Mushrooms, Avondale, Pa., earned level three certification under the Safe Quality Food 2000 standard, the highest level of certification.

Both plants received the “excellent” rating from The Steritech Group, an independent company licensed to award SQF certification, according to a news release. The plants scored over 99% on their certification audits.

“This has been a major opportunity for learning and growth of our entire team, and has involved continuing training and education,” president Anthony D’Amico said in the release.

The company and its principal mushroom suppliers were already certified under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Mushroom Good Agricultural Practices program, which requires controls involving product handling, employee hygiene, farm sanitation and pest management.
