Mastronardi Produce, Kingsville, Ontario, recently received a visit from Canadian environment minister Jim Prentice, who lauded the greenhouse grower for its environmentally friendly initiatives.

Canadian environment minister visits, lauds Mastronardi

Canadian environment minister Jim Prentice praised Mastronardi Produce at its headquarters in Kingsville, Ontario for the company's green iniatives.

“It’s the kind of leadership Mastronardi Produce has shown in terms of the environment that I wanted to come here and see firsthand,” Prentice said in a release from Mastronardi of his visit Aug. 21. “I am blown away by what I have seen here today.”

Mastronardi Produce/SUNSET launched The Green Grass Project this year and identified 11 aspects of its day-to-day operations that use recycled materials or have processes which are environmentally friendly, according to the release.

Prentice and his wife, Karen, visited Mastronardi’s greenhouses and sampled tomatoes. Paul Mastronardi presented the minister with a Green Grass Project shirt, according to the release.

“You deserve to be very, very proud of what all you are doing and accomplishing and it’s certainly something I am going to speak about everywhere I go in our country, so congratulations,” Prentice said in the release.
