Four Seasons Produce Inc., Ephrata, Pa., partnered with Feeding America through July 4 to help alleviate hunger in the U.S.

The company is donating 10 cents for every case of produce sold and delivered, according to a news release. This is the first time Four Seasons teamed up with Feeding America, which networks for about 200 food banks, but the company has been supporting the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank for three years, Ron Carkoski, president and chief executive officer, said.

Carkoski said that earlier this year, Feeding America gave a presentation on its work to the United Fresh Produce Association, saying one in six Americans is food insecure. To Carkoski, that meant that 75 of his 450 employees could be included, and since $1 can provide seven meals, he said the company can make a difference.

“It was one of those awakening things for me,” Carkoski said.

Carkoski said he hopes to raise at least $20,000, and the donation money is staying in the company’s region, going to four charities in the area: Philabundance, Central Pennsylvania, Greater Berks and Capital Area food banks.

Aside from food bank contributions, the company sponsors an annual golf tournament, raising more than $300,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation since 1993. This year’s event is scheduled for Sept. 15.
