ANAHEIM, Calif. — Gills Onions LLC, Oxnard, Calif., debuted the company’s new labels and packaging at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Summit Oct. 2-5 in Anaheim.

The new biodegradable polyactic acid clear containers reinforce the company’s commitment to environmentally friendly practices, said Nelia Alamo, director of sales and marketing.

“We created a smaller seven ounce size to give customers more convenience and better value and to give retailers more turns and more profits,” she said.

A 19-ounce carton will be available for the holiday season, Alamo said.

The new clear packaging enables Gills Onions to add a sustainability message to the underside of the label. After opening the container, that message is readily visible to consumers, Alamo said.
