(July 9) FORT ERIE, Ontario — PBB Global Logistics Inc. has acquired Clarke Logistics, a division of Clarke Inc., a Canadian provider of logistics and intermodal transportation services.

The Toronto-based Clarke sold the division to PBB for an estimated $40 million, plus an additional $7 million for working capital. PBB said in a news release that the combined organizations will employ about 1,100 people in 85 locations in North America and China.

Clarke Logistics brings 130 employees and 14 North American locations to the table. That includes sites in Philadelphia; Memphis, Tenn.; and two locations in Mexico.

While PBB executives were not available for comment, president and chief executive officer Mike Scott said in a news release that the move was a good one for his company.

“It expands our service offering, enlarges our network of locations and enhances our logistics resources, particularly by adding intermodal service to our North American transportation capabilities,” he said.

Clarke Logistics manages movement of a variety of goods via rail, truck and intermodal transportation between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. It handles freight for more than 2,200 customers through 650 trucking carriers and all major railroads.

Scott said the acquisition will triple PBBs North American transportation volume, as well as enhance the company’s ability to provide complete supply chain support for all of its customers.

No layoffs are planned as a result of the acquisition, and the Clarke Logistics management team will be merged with that of PBB.
