(Sept. 11, 11:05 a.m.) The longtime president and majority owner of Cincinnati-based distributor Flatow Riley Inc. has died. Joseph Caminiti was 82.

“Dad was a great mentor,” said co-owner Rod Caminiti. “He taught me the whole produce industry inside and out. He was around it his whole life. He used to buy on the market when he was a kid for the market stands his parents ran.”

Joseph Caminiti had been in the trucking business before going to work for Flatow Riley Inc. as general manager in 1967, Rod Caminiti said. He later bought the company.

“He was in the trucking business, but he got tired of being on the road all the time,” Rod Caminiti said. “He was a hard-working man who was devoted to his family and the business.”

Rod Caminiti said his father was still working every day when he died Aug. 7. His father’s shares in the company transferred to his mother, he said.

Joseph Caminiti also is survived by wife Mildred Caminiti; daughter Judi O’Rourke; sons Joe, Mark and Doug Caminiti; siblings Angelo and Tony Caminiti and Anna Mae Trumble. He had 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
