Cliff Ohmart, who served as the sustainable wine-growing director at the Lodi (Calif.) Winegrape Commission the past 13 years, has joined SureHarvest, Soquel, Calif., as vice president of professional services.

Sustainable ag leader Ohmart to join SureHarvest

“Dr. Cliff Ohmart is an exceptionally talented and visionary leader in sustainability who combines the rigors of agricultural science with the experimental wisdom from implementing on-the-farm innovations with thousands of growers,” Jeff Dlott, president of SureHarvest, said in a news release. “The addition of Dr. Ohmart allows SureHarvest to meet the growing demand for agrifood sustainability solutions.”

Ohmart also is senior author of the “Lodi Winegrower’s Workbook: A Self Assessment of Integrated Farming Practices,” a guide to grower innovation and adoption of sustainable farming practices, according to the release. He also was the architect of the LodiRules for Sustainable Winegrowing program for third-party certification by Protected Harvest.

Prior to that, he was a pest control advisor who implemented integrated pest management programs for orchard crops. In 1990, he designed one of the first computer database systems for commercial pest management, according to the release.
