A coalition of Pacific Northwest growers, distributors and other food companies has donated 8,000 pounds of sweet corn to the Bellingham (Wash.) Food Bank and 120,000 pounds of potatoes to Spokane, Wash.-based Second Harvest.

The Vertically Integrated Partnership made the sweet corn donation Oct. 20, according to a news release. Students from Western Washington University and employees of Sodexo, one of the partnership members, helped unload the corn.

The potato donation is in support of Tom’s Turkey Drive, a local weatherman’s fundraiser slated for Nov 19-20.

In addition to the Vertically Integrated Partnership donation, Eastern Washington potato farmers donated 27,000 pounds of russets to Second Harvest over Labor Day weekend.

Since 2008, the Vertically Integrated Partnership has donated almost 3 million pounds of potatoes, sweet corn, onions, beans and other fresh and processed foods to Northwest food banks.
