Veg-Tech LLC, Salinas, Calif., is offering a new pressure cooling system for tunnel cooling fruits and vegetables.

Veg-Tech cooler system aims for greater efficiency

The company’s portable system — called Cool. Anywhere. — expands forced air cooling capabilities for all pallets through a 12-pallet tunnel cooling trailer that uses freon 404-A refrigerant, according to a news release,.

In addition to zero ozone depletion potential, freon eliminates all ammonia permit, training, safety and liability issues, the release said, and the system delivers fixed-base temperatures of 32-36 degrees, cooling rates and energy efficiency.

Veg-Tech said in the release it’s working with Mike Azzopardi, co-owner, Salinas Valley Cooling, a produce cooler in Castroville, Calif., as its first customer this fall.
