Western Growers, Irvine, Calif., promoted Hank Giclas to senior vice president for science, technology and strategic planning.

Giclas, who was vice president for strategic planning, science and technology prior to his promotion, has been with Western Growers since 1990, developing “an expertise in agricultural chemical and environmental issues and (leading) Western Growers to becoming more actively engaged in the science aspects of agricultural policy,” according to a news release.

Giclas oversees food safety and security programs, sustainability, water and air quality issues, pesticide registration, including grassroot activities, grant writing, and the development and implementation of the Western Growers’ strategic plan.

“Probably the best example of Hank’s initiative and problem solving is his leadership on the establishment of the leafy green metrics,” said Western Growers President and chief executive officer Tom Nassif, in the release.

The new title became effective Jan. 1.
