The Brattleboro, Vt.-based Organic Trade Association projects that the organic fruit and vegetable category will continue double-digit growth in the 11% range in 2014.

The organization will do its part to promote that growth by hosting and participating in various activities and promotional events and by launching a newsletter for retailers, said Laura Batcha, chief executive officer and executive director.

OTA’s board of directors planned its annual retreat for Jan. 14-15, with Earthbound Farm as host for year’s event in San Juan Bautista, Calif.

“Every year, the OTA board of directors has a retreat to consider objectives, goals and strategies for the organization,” said Samantha Cabaluna, vice president of marketing and communications for Earthbound Farm.

In March, OTA and The Organic Center, based in Washington, D.C., plan to again participate at Natural Products Expo West at the Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, Calif.

A highlight of the expo will be The Organic Center’s annual VIP dinner on March 7.

“The Organic Center’s mission is to convene credible, evidence-based science on the health and environmental benefits of organic food and farming and to communicate the findings to the public,” Batcha said.

The annual OTA Policy Conference and Organic Week in Washington, D.C., which includes visits to legislators, is scheduled for May 20-21.

The association plans to launch the twice-monthly “The Organic Market Basket” newsletter for mainstream and natural grocers early this year.
