Celebrity chef Lala Diaz promoted avocados to children and their parents at a Los Angeles retailer Dec. 14 as part of a diabetes education program.

APEAM donation funds celebrity chef appearance, diabetes education

The event, sponsored by the Association of Producers, Packers and Exporters of Avocados from Michoacan (APEAM), was in conjunction with the association’s recent $15,000 donation to White Memorial Medical Center, a Los Angeles hospital, according to an APEAM news release.

APEAM’s donation will help sponsor two six-week classes in the hospital’s Center for Diabetes’ Healthy Eating Lifestyle Program, which teaches families at risk for diabetes about nutrition.

The retail event was at the Boyle Heights Food4Less.
